The UIC Biorepository (BIOR) is co-managed by the Research Resources Center (RRC)–administrated by the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research–and the UIC College of Medicine Department of Pathology and has completed a transition in leadership and administrative restructuring. Dr. Carlos Murga-Zamalloa, Assistant Professor of Pathology, will take on the role of faculty advisor, while Dr. Yue Huang is appointed as the director of the BIOR. Dr. Murga-Zamalloa and Dr. Huang have established workflows to review and process requests to reduce wait times and ensure a seamless experience for users.

Our iLab site contains forms for submitting new project requests. In addition to the current services categories, blood sample processing will be opened soon, and the monthly storage service in ultralow temperature facilities is open to accept requests now. All new requests will be accepted via iLab only.

Beginning July 1, 2025, the BIOR will offer a new pricing system and begin charging storage fees. Please contact our team to learn more.

Currently approved projects will remain active if the OPRS approved IRB protocol is up to date. Please contact Barbara Russell (barbarar@uic.edu) to coordinate the procurement of specimens.

The Research Resources Center is a division of the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research at the University of Illinois Chicago. RRC offers research faculty, staff and students an inventory of high-end scientific equipment as well as a wide range of services offered by core facilities staffed with highly skilled scientists. In addition, our staff trains the research faculty, staff and students to use scientific equipment. Through the RRC, researchers have access to statistical and computational support for data handling, data transfer and interpretation of experimental results. The RRC Scientific Store supports research on campus by supplying over 1,300 items while the Scientific Instrument Shop can fabricate one-of-a-kind models and repair various complex scientific instruments. The RRC also welcomes external users doing scientific research.
